GREEN LIGHT CANDLE by Ray Ndebi

GREEN LIGHT CANDLE by Ray Ndebi

GREEN LIGHT CANDLE

As a whisper she came into my life
Riding the winds like a dream in the night
The voice of hers I heard and so in love
I fell with the white wings of that innocent dove
It seemed she had crossed many horizons
Many green pastures, many blue seasons
Many mountains with their peaks at their feet
Many suns that have gone to warm from heat
To have a stop here, at the door of mine
And tell me “you are a link of the One”

For she came right from the blooming future
Where smiles are the wonder of the nature
The spark in her eye was that in my heart
She was like a candle with a green light
Gently dancing in the night of my day
Silently leading me along that way
That path between elephants, tigers, and snakes
Eagles, widows, werewolves and sharpened flakes
There is no time in the brown eyes of her
And there is always enough space to share
She was born with the hot tears of children
Born with the bow that smiles behind the rain
Born with the blood and soul of a blue throne

Born to crown life with a wonderful dawn.

SUMMER BLUE by Ray Ndebi

SUMMER BLUE by Ray Ndebi

SUMMER BLUE
Give me that bottle of wind, and a glass
and let me fill it up with those “alas”
life brought along the way I have been through
as I was searching for ways to love you

I’m now dying to dive into your smile
The time for this sunk drink to run dry
We both know our bodies are dancing here
Though our hearts have gone away from their Dear

Yours more than mine, alas! You seemed more involved…
Your kisses and your hands used to mean love…
Is it fair to call it so, when my heart
now knows it danced with mirage from the start

I let my today’s hopes and tomorrow’s
to the dawn of those eyes where my sorrows
were promised a dusk. Alas! I believed
that you would comfort me, and never leave

Beach-And-Blue-Sea-Wallpaper-Download-Full-HD-620x349

You knew I needed you, Summer, you knew
Were you only named like that, Summer Blue…
Such a beautiful spell cast on my soul
How could I resist the breath of your call

No other wonder shall I see again
My dreams were scattered by the heavy rain
I’m blind, it would hurt to open my eyes
My apples are washed out, blank of your lies

You were a lie. Weren’t you? Please tell me
Since you’re gone, I beg you to set me free
I’m only left with this bottle of wind
This tainted glass, and the fragrance of a queen

KD poem plate 4

Yet you are, alas! A beautiful one
that I shall dearly miss time after time
Let me drink, please, till the ultimate breath
Kindly stay until I embrace your death.‎

THE CALL OF THE CROW

THE CALL OF THE CROW

THE CALL OF THE CROW

I did not know what to write, I had always searched for the right story everywhere in mind. Then my mother woke me up. It was midnight and the whole village was sleeping.

“Listen…” she whispered to my ear, and I waited for her to talk; she did not.

I thought my ear was not cleaned enough, so I cleaned it again and I waited, and still my mother said no word. I used to be impatient when it came about listening, but my mother’s smile could turn a burning heart into an enchanted garden. Yes, my mother’s smile could.

“Keep calm…” she whispered with that same smile.

I tried but there was that thought; my girlfriend would come for a visit tomorrow, so I kept picturing the lovely day we would spend together. My paper was still white and empty, and the night would end.

“Keep calmer…” again did she whispered.

I thought of a mighty sun that would wipe out the face of my girlfriend and leave an empty room. The room got emptied, and the sun was so mighty that no other image could set a foot in. I was sweating, because of the effort I had to make to fight the first word that would make my story.

“Calmer and calmer…” tenderly she whispered.

I was getting too tired, for the right word was not coming. Then I heard a crow from a distance.  “A crow… I thought, what is a crow doing there at this time of the night?” The lonely crow kept calling, no fellow replied. “Is the crow calling?” I asked myself, without thinking of it; I was still waiting for my mother to talk to me. She did not, only the voice of the crow flew in the darkness.

The voice of the crow

Then I saw the sunlight growing weaker. A little wind caressed my body and dried it and relaxed my mind, I felt a warm hand touching my wrist; when everything go in a deep darkness in my mind, I heard the voice of the crow closer, no longer calling with that dreadful voice, but telling a story with sweetness and harmony.

“I’m inspired!” I screamed with my heart, and my softened wrist started to write the words that where silently coming along.

I knew I had the right story, and that is how I got inspired. It was not the most beautiful story on earth, but it was a perfect one. I looked for my mother in the bed, and I could find her nowhere. My mother was out, not trying to manage a sleepless night; my mother was in her grave managing a sleepless life. And only my writings would take her to Peace.

DRUMS, DRUMS

DRUMS, DRUMS

DRUMS, DRUMS…
Drums, drums,
Play drums not violins,
Play drums not keys,
They asked me to play drums…
And I started playing drums
Though I grew up amid violins and keys,
Though I used to dance around cement trees…
Drums, drums,
Play drums they shouted
If you want our ears to listen,
And our very eyes to see,
And our fat hands to give…
And I started playing drums
Though I grew up with pride and will…
Drums, drums… I played
From dawn to dusk and from dusk to dawn,
Drums… I played like I never thought
The soft and silky hands of mine would ever do,
Drums, drums… I played
So that the future from its coming centuries
Could remember the cradle of the spring
Climbing the mountain restlessly…
Drums, drums… I played
Until my hands became strong enough
To fight elephants and hippos…
Drums… I played
Until I forgot the sweetness of violins…
Drums… I played
Until I lost my keys…
The African drummer and his drum!

The African drummer and his drum!

Drums… I played,
Oh Lord! Drums… I played
Not so passionately that I could close my eyes,
But so blindly that I would shut my eyes!
And shut my ears!
Drums… I played,
And drums shut my whole life!
Drums, drums,
Play drums not violins,
Play drums not keys,
They asked me to play drums,
And I started playing drums…
But they weren’t listening,
They weren’t looking at me,
They weren’t even there!
I realized when I opened wide my eyes
That I was all alone,
Half naked in the midst of the bush!
Drums, drums… I played
So much that my water ran dry,
And the winds and the times
Had drawn deep lines in my face…
There I was rooted in the past,
While they were relishing a stainless future!
Drums… I played,
Yes I played like a fool!
While they were giving their own sons
Violins and keys of the purest air…
Here I am… seeking the way to their songs
As the bush is covering and drowning me
Like a mere drop in the hidden river of a forsaken place…
Drums, drums… I played
For they said so.

BLACK I AM

BLACK I AM

BLACK I AM

Black I am, and proud to be one,
Happy to call Brother each man;
For this world is one sweet village,
Though the strong arms of a cruel age,
An age of fear and death,
Squeeze it to let it out of breath,
Breaking down the wings of freedom,
Setting up the tyrant’s kingdom.

Distant messages from Africa! Source: www.attatravel.com

Black I am
Source: www.attatravel.com

Black I am, Black from Africa,
Fed with damsons and cassava,
My skin is made from an oak tree’s,
My words are deep like the blue seas,
I love you wherever you’re from…
Whatever your hurt in this storm,
I know plants that can get you healed,
I have for you a better meal.

Black I am, for I was born Black,
I could have been Red, Yellow, White,
I could have been from your Mother,
But I’m Black, Black from my Mother,
Take my hand inside of your heart
And follow the path to the start,
It’s the way to milk and honey,
The way back to our Family.
